Respectable Quotes:

"A musician must make his music, an artist must paint, a poet must write if he is to ultimately be at peace with himself."

"Often people attempt to live their lives backwards: they try to have more things, or more money, in order to do more of what they want so that they will be happier. The way it actually works is the reverse. You must first be who you really are, then, do what you need to do, in order to have what you want."

"We are given in our newspapers and on TV and radio exactly what we, the public, insist on having, and this very frequently is mediocre information and mediocre entertainment."

"Let the world know you as you are, not as you think you should be, because sooner or later, if you are posing, you will forget the pose, and then where are you?"

"Take someone who doesn't keep score, who's not looking to be richer, or afraid of losing, who has not the slightest interest even in his own personality: He's free."

"You must be the change you wish to see in the world."

"The best way to cheer yourself is to try to cheer somebody else up."

"To play it safe is not to play."

"We either make ourselves miserable, or we make ourselves strong. The amount of work is the same."

"Success is getting what you want; happiness is wanting what you get."

"The most wasted of all days is one without laughter"

"If you want anything done well, do it yourself. This is why most people laugh at their own jokes."

More Respectable Quotes:

"The high prize of life, the crowning glory of a man is to be born with a bias to some pursuit which finds him in employment and happiness - whether it be to make baskets, or broadswords or canals, or statues, or songs."

"Money never made a man happy yet, nor will it. There is nothing in its nature to produce happiness. The more a man has, the more he wants. Instead of its filling a vacuum, it makes one."

"Real joy comes not from ease or riches or from the praise of men, but from doing something worthwhile."

"We must laugh before we are happy, for fear we die before we laugh at all."

"The first duty of a revolutionary is to get away with it. "

"Life actors never rehearse and need no script. A life actor uses only what is available, nothing more, nothing less."

"We all want to change the world."

"It's a fool who plays it cool by making this world a little colder. "

"There's battle lines being drawn. Nobody's right if everybody's wrong. Young people speaking their minds Getting so much resistance from behind. "

"Get up, stand up! Stand up for your right! Don't give up the fight!"
"Revolution is not a bed of roses. A revolution is a struggle to the death between the future and the past."

"I think what motivates people is not great hate, but great love for other people "

"Go confidently in the direction of your dreams. Live the life you've always imagined. "

"I'm the one who's gonna die when it's time for me to die, so let me live my life the way I want."
"If you're going to San Francisco, be sure to wear a flower in your hair."

"I'm just beginning to see... The trees are drawing me near, I've got to find out why. "

"Live and let live."

Even More Respectable Quotes:

"Men fear thought as they fear nothing else on earth. Thought is subversive and revolutionary, destructive and terrible, Thought is merciless to privilege, established institutions, and comfortable habit. Thought is great and swift and free "

"Expose yourself to your deepest fear; after that, fear has no power, and the fear of freedom shrinks and vanishes. You are free."

"Whoever controls the media, controls the mind."

"A time for love, a time for hate, a time for peace, I swear it's not too late. "

"Animals are my friends-and I don't eat my friends."

"The awful cruelty and terror to which tens of thousands of animals killed for human food are subjected in traveling long distances by ship and rail and road to the slaughterhouses of the world. God disapproves of all cruelty.. whether to man or beast. The occupation of slaughtering animals is brutalising to those who are required to do the work.... I believe this matter is well worthy of the serious consideration of Christian leaders."

"I’ve always felt that animals are the purest spirits in the world. They don’t fake or hide their feelings, and they are the most loyal creatures on Earth. And somehow we humans think we’re smarter—what a joke."

"With our love we could save the world"

"Darkness cannot drive out darkness;
only light can do that.
Hate cannot drive out hate;
only love can do that."

"We don’t have a democracy."

"Maybe this world is another planet's hell."

"The Future is no place to place your better days. "

Lesbian/Gay Quotes:

"People sometimes think I'm gay because I once played a gay in a movie.  It's funny.  Audiences don't think you're a murderer if you play a murderer, but they do think you're gay if you play a gay. "

"No government has the right to tell its citizens when or whom to love.  The only queer people are those who don't love anybody. "

"That word "lesbian" sounds like a disease.  And straight men know because they're sure that they're the cure."

"My sexual orientation?  Horizontal, usually."

"Closets are for clothes."

"Equal rights are not special rights."
"I am reminded of a colleague who reiterated 'all my homosexual patients are quite sick' - to which I finally replied 'so are all my heterosexual patients.' "

"Homophobia is a social disease."

"It always seemed to me a bit pointless to disapprove of homosexuality.  It's like disapproving of rain. "

"Straight Americans need... an education of the heart and soul.  They must understand - to begin with - how it can feel to spend years denying your own deepest truths, to sit silently through classes, meals, and church services while people you love toss off remarks that brutalize your soul."

"What are you trying to protect heterosexual marriages from?  There isn't a limited amount of love in Iowa.  It isn't a non-renewable resource.  If Amy and Barbara or Mike and Steve love each other, it doesn't mean that John and Mary can't."

"I get sick of listening to straight people complain about, "Well, hey, we don't have a heterosexual-pride day, why do you need a gay-pride day?"  I remember when I was a kid I'd always ask my mom:  "Why don't we have a Kid's Day?  We have a Mother's Day and a Father's Day, but why don't we have a Kid's Day?"  My mom would always say, "Every day is Kid's Day."  To all those heterosexuals that bitch about gay pride, I say the same thing:  Every day is heterosexual-pride day!  Can't you people enjoy your banquet and not piss on those of us enjoying our crumbs over here in the corner?"

So I've decided to take a different route in life. I am now on a journey to travel the world. "Where will I end up?"  is a question I will continue to ask every step of the way. Right now, nothing matters and I just need to get away from it all. There's too much stress here and people are too often ina hurry or uptight about something. It kills people to even try to smile and everyone seems like they hate their life no matter how good they have it. I got "let go" from my job at the paper about 2 weeks ago and have since had a severe lack of funds, making me unable to pay anything due this month. I sold things that were not impotant to me and had no value such as the tv, the vast amount of designer jeans I once owned, various knick knacks,  videos/books/and cds I hardly ever did anything with, pricey labeled shoes, the home telephone, stereo stystem, sofas, and lots of other things that I will hardly miss. Truth is, I don't need any of it. All I own right now is my laptop(2 months payes internet), my cell phone, my sleeping bag, and my cat. I'm in the process of selling my furniture and clothing as well as many other things.  Who needs any of that stuff anyway, all I need is me, my small amount of useful amounts, the world's best cat, and my car to help. My apartment is leased already and I plan to move out by the end of next week.  My friend Beth offered me a place to stay in Texas but I had to refuse because I wanted to explore. I need time to figure out where I stand in life, where I want to go, and who I want to be. I'll start by driving east since weather is somewhat "bad" up north and mid west, and see where I go from there. I'll just take it one step at a time. If anyone reading this has any suggestions on where to go, please let me know. I'm up for an adventure...anyone willing to join me? Until next time, I'm out.

It has been a while, as usual, since I last wrote an entry on my lovely xanga site, and as usual, I have nothing really exciting to say. Same old routine day after day, busy working and running errands, while making time for Christmas shopping and holiday festivities. My best friend, Beth is coming from Texas for a week on Sunday to spend Christmas with my cat and I. It is very nice to have the company and I for one cannot wait for her to arrive. My column popularity over the entire course of the year has decreased from the amount it ranked last year. Unfortunately for me, because of my "lack to maintain a consistency between quote totals from 2003 to 2004" I risk losing my job. I know, it sucks but that is what I get I guess for not giving the right advice in the Sunday papers (Go figure). In an attempt to dye my hair red, my color is now greenish yellow. How? I have no idea other than the fact that too much bleach can destroy a person's scalp and hair color. Yeah, I know that now. I am now going for a retro Skittle imitation and will later opt for purple or neon pink to complete the look. Hopefully I can get my hair color back and gain a streak of luck before the new year comes rolling in. By that time, the question on whether or not I get to keep my job, will be answered and I can then decide to dye my head entirely black to get back my normalcy. Happy Holidays everyone.

Hey ya'll, I just had my first attempt of adding music to my journal here so if you'd like a humorous version to a popular song, tune in and raise your volume. Ya'll probably already heard it but I came across it and thought it was great, lol. Later.

Pledged: The Secret Life of Sororities
By Alexandra Robbins

A great deal of time has passed since I last posted on here and unfortunately not a lot has gone on. I just might be a slightly boring person . Everything has been pretty much the same with the exception of a few interesting events.

On a work-related note, I received a reader's choice award on behalf of the LA Times. Apparently I have a great majority of readers("fans" as the editor calls them) who wrote in why my advice column was on their must read list and how I inspired them. Of course I was flattered but was certain other columnists had a better chance than I did. I guess statistics show that a column written by a homosexual woman, standing on human value, straight politics, and ethics, can withstand those drawing less concern and are less controversial. Either way I was refered to as "the female rebel of the common press." At first I didn't know how to accept the name but it was confirmed that it was brought about due to my habit of forming a response of debate with opposing sides. Not a good thing to do when your readers range in different opinions. I for one am not a person to stand by and not voice my say. Straight forward regardless of the consequences. Yep, that's why I'm hated so much by a certain audience. Well, can't win them all.

On a non workrelated note: I am again entering the dating scene. I have yet to find someone who may as well be sharing a relationship with me and it's pretty hard to do so. So many people friends have set me up on dates with are so incompatible with me and my personality that I'm beginning to doubt that there is a right person for me. Maybe it's because I've hardly had a say in the set up. Tomorrow will be my first attempt at "8 minute dating." For those of you unsure of the term, it is when singles enter a location and are matched with over 50 people throughout the night, holding nothing but 8 minute conversations getting to know one another. I doubt this is going to work but some stories show that it is a good try. From the people we select, times are set to meet with others who are also interested. From then on, it's just whatever happens. Not too complicated but we'll just have to see how it goes.

I guess that's it. Such a huge gap between entries and only two paragraphs sum up what's been happening. That's just how busy I am. See ya'll later.

It's been a mighty long time. I am sitting at my desk right now brainstorming on new ideas for a newsletter. I guess I have that writer's block thing since I can't decide on a single thing I want to write about. It's a change though from the usual advice columns in the way that now I have to sort of lecture my readers into thinking of one idea with a more open mind. The only difference is I can't announce it, I have to put my thoughts on paper which for me is quite a challenge (kind of ironic isn't it? I'm an advice columnist and I have difficulty with thoughts on paper, go figure), especially when it comes to focus points. So I guess I'm going to sit around doing nothing but tapping my pen and whistling, possibly doodling or swinging my chair, who knows, for the next nine hours. Imagine that my day has only just begun. I have until ten am tomorrow morning to hand in a draft of ideas. I hate deadlines.
